ChatGPT 5: why the launch fell flat
ChatGPT 5: The Hype Fell Flat - Here’s Why
Is ChatGPT 5 the game-changer we were sold, or just a shiny letdown? The data and my own (brief) experience point to the latter. Despite the hype across the board, it’s not living up to expectations
Here’s the rundown:
Kalshi "Best AI this Month?" Bet: ChatGPT’s odds of being the top AI tanked from 75% to 19% this month, while Gemini raised to 83%. The market’s vote is in - ChatGPT 5 isn’t king
ARC-AGI Leaderboard: Its reasoning skills are underwhelming, scoring just 9,9% compared to Grok 4’s thinking at 16%. No revolutionary leap here.
METR Task Length: Task completion stretched from GPT-4’s 15 minutes to 1-4.5 hours with GPT-5. Better, yes, but barely enough to notice
Social media echoes the disappointment: users call it “incremental at best.” My own tests align (sleep is overrated anyway) - I see slight improvements, but it will certainly not transform how I work. For tricky tasks, I’d still juggle multiple AI tools to get more insights to figure out how to proceed and which route to take
The silver lining? This AI race keeps pushing boundaries, forcing us to stay sharp and adaptable. ChatGPT 5 might not impress, but the competition itself is a win for innovation and for us, end users
What do you think? Has ChatGPT 5 impressed you, or are you feeling the same letdown? Drop your thoughts below - I’d love to hear your take!
