# Personal context is the only durable asset in AI

Consistent maintenance of your personal context is the only durable asset in the AI space. Everything else is a temporary tool subscription.

The rapid market shifts over the last few months proved this. Anthropic was the default assumption for serious work, but that window closed as competitors caught up and developers moved.

In April, OpenAI reported Codex growing from 3 million to 4 million weekly active developers in just two weeks, while open-source frameworks like Hermes Agent crossed 124,000 GitHub stars. The capability gap between models has shrunk to the point where adoption velocity and workflow integration matter more than fractional leads on technical benchmarks.

When vendor leadership rotates this fast, the underlying models become commoditized. What remains valuable is the structured knowledge layer you build around them - your project histories, decision logs, system rules, and explicit constraints. A clean and portable context layer turns vendor switching into a frictionless upgrade.

This portability allows you to fragment your tooling pragmatically based on the environment.

I moved my personal projects to Cursor to leverage its growing agentic infrastructure and the freedom to swap underlying LLMs depending on the task.

Simultaneously, I continue running Genie Code for enterprise work, where data governance and security architectures dictate the tool choice, and I am currently researching Hermes to map out how to best leverage its capabilities.

Operating across entirely different interfaces is seamless when you own the intelligence layer and treat the AI purely as a replaceable reasoning engine.
